Lee feels richly blessed to have been born and raised in the USA.  He also heeds the biblical tenet that much is expected of those to whom much has been given.  He gives back to the community in many ways.

Lee first heard of Locks of Love on TV while painting his house in Virginia Beach.  He persuaded his colleagues at Hair It Is to do a cut-a-thon.  It was so much fun that they organized a city-wide event in 2000.  That year Lee participated in Kutting for Kids, an annual event sponsored by First Coast News.  He subsequently contacted new anchor Jeannie Blaylock and offered to set-up an organizing committee for future events.  The self-proclaimed Chairman for Life of the Kutting for Kids organizing committee, after ten years he is secretly hoping for a bloodless coop!  Since 1999 the events he has organized have raised more than $30,000 for Locks of Love.  Additionally, he has personally collected more than 9,001 inches of hair from 643 donors, averaging 14" a donation and offering over 50 free haircuts per year!

At the urging of his color mentor in Virginia Beach Lee became a Look Good ... Feel Better (LGFB) workshop facilitator in 2002.  He presents the workshop every other month.  In 2006 he became the LGFB area trainer for NE Florida.  Lee enjoys being able to bring some joy into the lives of cancer patients.  In addition to LGFB he offers free pre & post chemo haircuts and free wig shaping.

When our son, Tom, was in Cub Scouts\Boy Scouts Lee was on sea duty and gone 70% of the time.  When he came ashore for good in 1986 he served in several troop committee jobs and as Scoutmaster for two years in England.  The highlight of that was a coast to coast hike along Hadrian's Wall during which the boys earned the hiking and backpacking merit badges as well as the 50-miler award.  During our time in England he also volunteered as a hiking and orienteering consultant for our daughter, Michelle's Girl Scout Troop.  He has been a card-carrying Girl Scout Adult Volunteer since 1987!  In Virginia Beach he led our daughter, Rebecca's Junior and Cadette troop for five years.  Remembering many exciting canoe trips as a scout in Florida he wanted to take the girls on canoe trips.  The council in Virginia required American Canoe Association Instructor certification to do that.  So, Lee became a Flat Water instructor in 1992 and a Moving Water Instructor in 1994.  The children are now grown with children of their own but Lee continues to volunteer with both the Girls and Boy Scouts as a paddling instructor and merit badge counselor.

In addition of the volunteerism Lee & Lenore make financial contributions to their church and numerous local and national charities.
